A Day in Deep Ellum: Jessica Brodsky

March 5, 2021 | Guest Author

Few people spend more time in Deep Ellum than the committed crews of bartenders, servers, cooks, and more of Deep Ellum’s service industry. Jessica Brodsky is a stalwart of the Deep Ellum service industry and an incredibly engaged and active member of the community. You have likely seen Jessica manning the bar at some of Deep Ellum’s longest running bars like Reno’s Chop Shop, Three Links, or Green Room, among many other spots. In addition to her work in the neighborhood, Jessica serves diligently on the board of the Deep Ellum Community Association (DECA).

Because Jessica is always cruising the neighborhood, we knew she would be the perfect pick to plan out a day in Deep Ellum! Between Dallas-wide favorites and deeper cuts, Jessica’s ideal day in the neighborhood is definitely one to check out and replicate.

To kick off her day, Jessica likes to swing by Tiki Loco for a specialty hot coffee, but she definitely doesn’t miss a blended iced coffee on a hot Texas day. After walking the neighborhood with one of her foster puppies, Jessica can’t resist hitting up the newly opened Cheba Hut for a delicious sandwich paired with a cold craft beer. Rocket Fizz tops the list of her favorite shops to explore so she can “discover new flavors, reminisce with old candy and get a sugar high with hard to find root beers and sodas.”

As the sun starts to set, Jessica sets her sights on her plans for the evening. A visit to Armoury DE is a must for her as their massive selection of whiskey and hearty Hungarian-inspired food is hard to beat! When she isn’t tending the bar at Three Links, it is one of her top spots for music, entertainment, and to simply hang out. Jessica says it best: “Whether it’s a punk band, local act, weekday residency such as Colab or RC and the Gritz or a well known band, not only will you have an up close and intimate setting for the music but a fun back patio where you’re sure to see people discussing fantasy football and playing dice games.” After a full night of music and socializing, Shoals Sound & Service is a great place for Jessica to chill out and enjoy a classic cocktail while listening to vintage vinyl records.

Enjoy the Texas spring weather and spend a day enjoying Deep Ellum like a local!
